*****************THIS POST IS A WORK IN PROGRESS ******************
***** DO NOT email or private message Andy - Admin for private build help. The purpose here is to have an online collaboration and searchable record of information *****
This online forum is focused on the conversion of Epson photo printers into t-shirt (DTG) or flatbed printers. By far the majority of the information is centered around the Epson P600 model and some about the 1430 /1500w model.
In this post I will go over some of the most important points and provide links to relevant forum topics. This is by no means a complete guide and there are hundreds of posts worth reading to further understand DIY DTG.
The first step is to register / sign up for free: https://www.opendtg.com/register/
To get full access to everything on the forum you'll want to get a membership: https://www.opendtg.com/subscriptions/2/
This section has examples of builds forum members have done: https://www.opendtg.com/forum/9-builders-showcase/
You'll want to get familiar with some terms that you'll be seeing on the forum: https://www.opendtg.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=488
At this point you'll want to decide what Epson printer you will be using (Again we prefer the Epson P600): https://www.opendtg.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3
OpenDTG builds are based around our code that runs on a standard Arduino Uno. We have a diagram here: https://www.opendtg.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1050 and the code here:
You can wire up a stock Arduino and common components: https://www.opendtg.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=58 and https://www.opendtg.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=21
Or if you prefer to go the no solder route and easier install we have specialty electronics here: https://store.opendtg.com/
For the base part of your build you'll have to decide how DIY you want to get. We have a .dxf design file here: https://www.opendtg.com/files/ or complete ready to assemble kits here: https://store.opendtg.com/Complete-DIY-DTG-Basic-Conversion-Kit--Unassembled_p_16.html
